Walking For a Cause: My Experience with the Alzheimer’s Awareness Walk
After my grandmother’s diagnosis, I was inspired to participate in the Alzheimer’s Awareness Walk, an event dedicated to raising funds, spreading awareness, and bringing people together in the fight against Alzheimer’s.
Fundraising for the walk was a deeply personal journey. My friend and I teamed up to raise around $13,000 dollars for this walk, an achievement I am very proud of. Every donation we received felt like a step toward something bigger than myself - toward research, support for families, and ultimately, hope for a cure. I reached out to friends, family, and my community, sharing my grandmother’s story and the reason behind my commitment.
The day of the walk was emotional and inspiring. Seeing a huge group of people walking, each with their own stories and reasons for being there, was a powerful reminder that no one is alone in this fight. Some walked in honor of loved ones they had lost, while others were caregivers, advocates, or patients themselves. With every step, I felt a deep connection to the cause. Walking alongside others who understood the struggle, who shared the same hope for a future without Alzheimer’s, reinforced why this fight matters.
I am excited to continue participating in future walks, and as a member of the planning committee, I am dedicated to contributing my ideas and efforts to make each walk as impactful and meaningful as possible!
